We are part of the regional sustainability initiative and completed the adhesion process: A big step on our personal journey towards responsible tourism. The system is aligned with the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and the Paris COP21 Accord to fight Climate Change.
Sustainable Tourism 2030
Sustainable Tourism is the largest sustainability certification program for the tourism and hospitality industry in Canada. We proudly achieved a silver certification in spring 2019 together with Angela Nagy and her Kelowna team from GreenStep.
TOTA Destination Accreditation
The Thompson Okanagan Region was officially certified as the first destination in the Americas to have successfully achieved the Sustainable Tourism Destination accreditation from Biosphere International and the Responsible Tourism Institute. Inspired by their initiative we followed the road to sustainability.
What does that mean in real life ?
A lot! A few examples:
Our tap water from our own well comes ultra clean and soft. We ask our guests to use our recycling facilities. Reusable cotton shopping bags are provided. Our energy consumption carbon footprint is optimized. No single use plastic toiletries. Our chickens appreciate all leftovers! And more..
